Vincent's Site

Project: Skyz

Since 2018 I maintain Skyz.be, an ad-free weathersite that aims to show the forecasted weather in a clear way, and also collect observations from 500+ personal weather stations across the benelux area. I think this makes me the biggest platform that collects weather station data in the benelux that is not a commercial entity, which is a pretty great achievement. The data is even used for research (cool right!)

Skyz also provides forecasts, which I try to do with data sourced from weather models directly. It is a lot of fun to maintain these systems and tweak them to provide accurate forecasts.

I maintain the platform as a hobby in my spare time, and I am always looking for ways to improve it. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to contact me: vincent@vincentlammens.be . I also don't put ads (or anoying popups) on the site, to keep it as distraction free as possible. The project is entirely funded by myself.

Weather stations

Skyz collects data from over 500 users who have linked their weather station to. the platform. There are even a few universities like UTwenthe and UGent who use the data for accademic research.

Lightning network

In late 2022, early 2023 I started building out a lightning sensor network, slowly adding users who where willing to share the data from their lightning sensors with the platform. it now has about 25 sensors attached to it which gives it a pretty good coverage over the Benelux area.
